What Comps shows
What is it selling for? What sold on Whatnot, what sold on eBay, the price guide -- each with where it came from -- and the Aucta comp built from them.
Four kinds of evidence, never mixed up: sold on Whatnot (your reports, and pooled across Aucta sellers), sold on eBay as measured by a third party, a price guide for cards -- and below the line, what eBay sellers are asking right now, in eBay's own box.
The same third party also reports sales on TCGPlayer (raw single cards, and sealed trading-card product such as booster boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes), Poshmark (clothing, shoes and bags) and Mercari (everything), each in its own panel -- Mercari gives no sold date, so its sales are shown and not counted.
The four words on every figure
Every price in Comps carries one of four small tags, and they mean one thing each.
- ASKING: a live listing's price. Somebody wants this for it; nobody has paid it. A best offer whose accepted price is not known is shown struck through and tagged ASKING too, because the listed price is all there is.
- SOLD: a sale -- one of yours from your weekly reports, one pooled across Aucta sellers, or one measured on eBay.
- ESTIMATE: the Aucta comp, our figure from those sales.
- EXACT: a figure we hold exactly, such as a fee Whatnot charged.
The Aucta comp
A projection from what sold, never a promise. Recent sales count more than old ones; rows that are a different version, a lot or another product are listed under Left out, each with its reason, and never used in the figure.
The recipe: weighted median, recent sales count more (half-life 45 days), the top and bottom 10% trimmed, nothing older than 180 days.
How the product is read
It reads what the product is and sorts the sales; it never sets a price.
Other places' listings
Other places' live listings, kept apart because their terms say they may only be shown, not calculated with.
Live listings as eBay shows them -- asking prices, not sales, in eBay's own Best Match order, in the product's eBay category, and, when Aucta has a comp, only those between a quarter and four times it, so a $2 accessory is not shown beside a $130 box. Shown here only, and never used in the Aucta comp. Never more than six hours old.
For staff: the sources
Turn any source off here and every Comps page says so at once. Weights feed the Aucta estimate; blank means not an input. eBay's API can never carry one (its licence, 9(e)).
Saved comps on a lot
What this sells for, saved from Comps with where each figure came from. Evidence beside your price, not a price.
