Whichever way you scan, the page you are on acts on it without a click, and the next scan moves on to the next product.
Three ways to scan
- A USB scanner, on your computer. Plug it in and turn on the Scanner switch -- in the bar at the top, or Scan a barcode then Scanner on Add stock and Comps. Every scan acts at once and the next one moves on, with no tapping in between; a Bluetooth scanner paired with your phone works the same way.
- Your phone's camera, on your phone. Open your menu and choose Use the camera, or press Scan a barcode on Add stock or Comps, and hold the box a hand's width away. It reads once, shows the product big, asks what the page needs -- on Add stock, what you paid and how many -- and after Add the camera comes back on by itself for the next box.
- Your phone, for your computer. On your computer, turn on the Phone switch (or Scan a barcode then Phone), and scan the code it shows with your phone's camera app, signed in to the same business. Your phone then does what your computer's page does -- on Add stock it asks what you paid and how many, then adds -- and shows what happened, for up to two hours or until either side turns it off.
What each page does
- Comps -- the product's name goes in the box and the comp runs, the same as pressing Search, for the credits the button shows. Scan the next thing and its comp replaces this one. If Aucta does not know the barcode, the number goes in the box and you type the words.
- Add stock -- the form fills itself: the name, the category when Aucta knows it, and the barcode. The cursor waits on what you paid. Press Done, and the next scan starts a fresh form.
- Your shelf -- scan a lot's label and its page opens. Scan a product's barcode and the lot you added it as opens, or a list if there are several. Not on your shelf yet? One button takes you to Add stock with it filled in.
- The Scanner page (
/upc) -- the last ten scans and where each went, and for the scan in hand: comp it, add it, or find it on your shelf. - Anywhere else -- the product's own page opens. Opening it never spends credits.
What it can read
- The barcode on a product's box (UPC or EAN).
- A PSA slab's certificate number, or the QR code on the back of newer slabs. Aucta does not look a slab up: scanned on Add stock, its cert number is kept on the lot you add, and you type the card's name.
- Your own Aucta SKU labels.
- Anything else, by photo: on the camera, press Take a photo to aim, then the round shutter (or Choose a file on a computer), and Aucta reads what is in the picture -- a raw card, a jacket, a pair of shoes -- for about 2 credits, the same picture free again for a day, and the photo becomes the lot's first picture on Add stock. If the picture shows nothing it can name, the sheet says so and asks for the words.
Aucta first looks the code up in what Aucta sellers have already added -- that is free. A barcode nobody has added yet may not be known; type its name once, add the lot, and the next scan of it is.
Labels for your shelf
Print labels, on your shelf, prints your lots' SKUs as barcodes -- thirty to a standard label sheet (Avery 5160), or one at a time for a label printer. Stick one on the box, and scanning it at your shelf opens that lot.
Turning it off
Press Escape, or the switch. While it is off, a scanner types into whatever box is selected, like a keyboard, and nothing is looked up. Escape on your computer, or the Phone switch, also ends a paired phone.
