Your costs and your P&L

Gross and net

Gross profit is what your selling made: what you brought in, less Whatnot's fees, the postage you paid and what the stock cost you. It is the figure on a show, on a lot and on Overview, and it is what your daily goal is measured on. Entering rent never changes it -- a sale's profit is the sale's.

Net profit is gross profit less your business costs for the same days: every one-off cost and every charge a recurring cost made in the period. It is what the business made after everything.

Overview shows both, for any period. The P&L shows them line by line.

Where the sales come from

Sales arrive when you upload Whatnot's weekly report. You can also record one by hand from Inventory.

Sales outside a show are counted in the totals. Selling outside a show is perfectly normal -- not everything happens on a stream.

Your own costs

Supplies, packaging, subscriptions, rent, a helper on show nights: log what running the business costs. Other is for anything else, and says what it was.

A one-off cost is a day and an amount.

A recurring cost is entered once -- rent of $500 on the 1st, monthly, from 1 September -- and Aucta charges it on its own dates for any period you look at: daily, weekly on a weekday, or monthly on a day from the 1st to the 28th. (The 29th to the 31st are not offered, so February never skips the rent.) Give it an end date, or end it later from Recurring.

Change amount asks from what day. Everything before that day keeps the old amount, so last month's P&L never moves because the rent went up this month.

Fix this rule is for a recurring cost entered wrong: it changes the rule itself -- amount, kind, day, dates -- and every period it covers, past ones included. A one-off can be edited or removed whatever its date. They are your costs.

The P&L

Pick a period -- today, this week, this month, this quarter, or two dates. Each line sits beside the same kind of period before it (last week, last month), with the change as a figure. A kind of cost with nothing in either period is left out. Under the table is every cost behind it, one row each.

P&L (CSV) and Costs (CSV) download the table and the cost list for an accountant. The cost list has one row per one-off and per recurring charge; a recurring charge carries the id of the cost that made it. A member who can only view the business does not get the files.

Days

A period is calendar days, and today is today where you are (Account, Profile). See Times and time zones.

The chart

One bar per day you sold something. Days you did not sell are left out rather than shown as zero -- a day off is not a bad day.

Your pace

A day you do not sell is simply a day off -- it is not counted against you.
